FBI file: UFO, UFO Part 16

Federal Bureau of Investigation · 169 pages · text by GLM-OCR

This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1949 Army intelligence reports of unidentified aerial objects seen around Camp Hood, Texas, forwarded by the San Antonio office, which told the Director it was reviewing and destroying such reports unless they held FBI interest. It also has 1957 FBI liaison memoranda on a radar-tracked object near Montauk Point and Benton, Pennsylvania, judged unlikely to be a Soviet operation. The file also includes a civilian Flying Saucer Researchers release arguing that saucers probably come from Mars.

Mr. Hoover has been called out of the city and asked me to acknowledge your letter to him, which was received on November 13, 1961.

Although Mr. Hoover would like to be of service, information in FBI files must be maintained as confidential through a regulation of the Department of Justice. In this connection, the FBI is strictly an investigative agency of the Federal Government and, as such, does not make evaluations nor draw conclusions concerning the character or integrity of any organization, publication or individual. Please do not infer either that we do or do not have data in our files relating to the subjects of your inquiries.

In light of the foregoing, you can be assured that this Bureau does not have a list of organizations of the type you discussed; however, there is enclosed a list of groups designated by the Department of Justice as coming within the purview of Executive Order 10450. The material you enclosed is being returned to you under separate cover.
