This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1954 to 1961 correspondence and memoranda about flying saucers. Most of it concerns the Detroit Flying Saucer Club, which the Detroit office reported on from informants and chose not to investigate, while Bureau headquarters said saucer matters belonged to the Air Force. It also includes public letters to J. Edgar Hoover, a 1955 North Carolina sighting report, Leonard Stringfield's 1961 anonymous warning call, and policy reviews that restate the practice of referring reports to the Air Force.

# July 5, 1964 Mr. John Edar Noover Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation Washington 25, D.C. Dear Mr. loovor: Again thank you for your letter of August 31, 1959. The has been investigating UFO and flying saucer sightings since August 1953. We have a State Representative in most of the 50 states, and in seven foreign countries. We have a Scientific Panel of known scientist and a Technical Advisory Board of know: saucer researchers. I have received special authorization from the Department of the Air Force in Washington to visit Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio for the purpose of viewing the Air Force Files on their saucer investigation since 1948. Among the sightings we are interested in is one recent one, Soccorro, New Mexico, April 25, 1904. This sighting was observed by several different people in different towns in New Mexico. According to the AP, it was stated that the FRI was investigating this sighting. Would it be possible to obtain the results of your invest- ication? I was appreciate any information you could give us. Thank you. Trusting to hear from you in the near future.
