This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1954 to 1961 correspondence and memoranda about flying saucers. Most of it concerns the Detroit Flying Saucer Club, which the Detroit office reported on from informants and chose not to investigate, while Bureau headquarters said saucer matters belonged to the Air Force. It also includes public letters to J. Edgar Hoover, a 1955 North Carolina sighting report, Leonard Stringfield's 1961 anonymous warning call, and policy reviews that restate the practice of referring reports to the Air Force.

J. Edgar Hoover U.S. Department of Justice Washington, D.C. Dear Mr. Hoover, Just recently I bought a copy of the magazine, " Real. " This issue had a great deal of pictures about unidentified flying objects and it also had a photo of two F. B. D. agents leading a silver-clad man, about one and a half to two feet tall, down an american street. I know this sounds extraordinary, but this is what it had. The photo was probably fake but I wanted to be doubly sure. Please write me and tell me if there is any truth to this photo. Also this photo was first published by some add chance in a Cologne, Germany news- paper. Yours truly, CORRESPONDENT
