This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1954 to 1961 correspondence and memoranda about flying saucers. Most of it concerns the Detroit Flying Saucer Club, which the Detroit office reported on from informants and chose not to investigate, while Bureau headquarters said saucer matters belonged to the Air Force. It also includes public letters to J. Edgar Hoover, a 1955 North Carolina sighting report, Leonard Stringfield's 1961 anonymous warning call, and policy reviews that restate the practice of referring reports to the Air Force.

## To: Director Federal Bureau Of Investigation Washington D.C. Subject: Inquiry about fantastic article Dear Sir: This may seem utterly silly, but I felt that I must write in about it. In the August issue of MYSTIC magazine is an article telling of two men from the planet Venus who landed in a flying saucer near Barstow, California, obtained some old clothes, and hitch hiked into Los Angeles. One of these two, the article says, got a job for a while in the missing persons office of a newspaper in Li. On page 18, 2nd column, 3rd paragraph, NISTIC says that a Los Angeles newspaper reporter stated that he sent a "full report" about these things from another planet to the PEI. NYSTIC also says that accompanying that account was an analysis record of a "gouged" piece of hard alloy steel which one of the Venusians is supposed to have made by running his thumb lightly across the surface of it. And that this particular analysis was made by "one of the foremost laboratories in 14." Frankly I don't believe the article. On the other hand, I can't prove it isn't true.
