This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1954 to 1961 correspondence and memoranda about flying saucers. Most of it concerns the Detroit Flying Saucer Club, which the Detroit office reported on from informants and chose not to investigate, while Bureau headquarters said saucer matters belonged to the Air Force. It also includes public letters to J. Edgar Hoover, a 1955 North Carolina sighting report, Leonard Stringfield's 1961 anonymous warning call, and policy reviews that restate the practice of referring reports to the Air Force.

A review of Norfolk files reflects that directed a letter to the Commanding Officer, Cape Charles Air Force Station, Cape Charles, Virginia, 8/7/58, requesting information concerning unidentified flying objects (UFO). A copy of that correspondence was directed to the FBI, Norfolk, by Cape Charles Air Force Station officials.
Records also reflect that had directed a letter to the FBI, 2/1/59, which correspondence was answered by the Bureau, 2/9/59. directed a letter to Commanding Officer, Headquarters, Aircraft Fleet, Marine Force Atlantic, U. S. Naval Base, Norfolk, Virginia, 6/15/60, requesting information concerning UFOs. That agency submitted a copy of that correspondence to the FBI, Norfolk.
Files further reflect that directed a letter to Commander, U. S. Naval Base, Norfolk, Virginia, 8/8/63, concerning restrictions that command has against the publicizing of flying scucer sighting reports made by Navy personnel. A copy of this correspondence was directed to the FBI Office, Norfolk, Virginia.
There is also in file a copy of a letter received by Stony Creek, Virginia, in which requested information concerning UFOs. This correspondence was postmarked at Fort Eustis, Virginia, on 7/23/63. $ \textcircled{3} $ - Bureau
