This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1954 to 1961 correspondence and memoranda about flying saucers. Most of it concerns the Detroit Flying Saucer Club, which the Detroit office reported on from informants and chose not to investigate, while Bureau headquarters said saucer matters belonged to the Air Force. It also includes public letters to J. Edgar Hoover, a 1955 North Carolina sighting report, Leonard Stringfield's 1961 anonymous warning call, and policy reviews that restate the practice of referring reports to the Air Force.

## Dear Sir:

This morning, your Newport News agent visited me at my office at Fort Eustis, Virginia, and questioned me about 10 minutes regarding my interest in reports of sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) --- namely a letter which I wrote to you in 1959 and two of my recent letters to local state and Federal agencies regarding the role of those agencies in processing UFO reports.

Mr. stated that the objective of this interview was to determine my official identity and my motive for writing as a private citizen the letters in question. He also told me he was going to prepare a "memorandum for the files" on this interview. I request that you furnish me a copy of this memorandum or report.
