This FBI file section contains a 20 January 1953 letter from the Johnson County, Indiana civil defense office asking J. Edgar Hoover whether the International Flying Saucer Bureau was subversive, with an enclosed issue of its bulletin Space Review. It also holds 1956 FBI memoranda and letters to Air Force investigators on a Van Nuys landing claim, a bright light seen from Oxford, Pennsylvania, and a low spinning object seen near Henderson, North Carolina. In each case the FBI took no action.

REPORT OF SIGHTING OF UNKNOWN FLYING OBJECT NEAR DANVILLE, ILLINOIS, NOVEMBER 6, 1957, INFORMATION CONCERNING.

REPORTED THAT

REPORTED AT APPROXIMATELY 9:00 PM, NOVEMBER 7, 1957, SIGHTING A BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT FLYING THROUGH THE AIR IN A SOUTHWESTERLY DIRECTION FROM DANVILLE, ILLINOIS. TRIED TO FOLLOW IN THEIR CAR IN THE SAME DIRECTION AND DROVE GENERALLY IN A SOUTHWESTERLY DIRECTION FOR TWENTY MILES WHEN THEY LOST SIGHT OF THE OBJECT. DURING THIS TIME IT APPEARED AS BRIGHT WHITE, AMBER AND ORANGE. NO INDICATION THAT IT DIPPED TO THE GROUND OR THAT IT AFFECTED THEIR CAR. THEY REPORTED FOR A FEW SECONDS IT SEEMED TO AFFECT BOTH THE RECEIVER AND TRANSMITTER OF THEIR FM TWO-WAY RADIO. REPRESENTATIVES OF INTERNATIONAL NEWS SERVICE INQUIRED THIS OFFICE CONCERNING, NO COMMENT WAS MADE. ABOVE BEING FURNISHED FOR INFORMATION BUREAU.
