This FBI file section contains a 20 January 1953 letter from the Johnson County, Indiana civil defense office asking J. Edgar Hoover whether the International Flying Saucer Bureau was subversive, with an enclosed issue of its bulletin Space Review. It also holds 1956 FBI memoranda and letters to Air Force investigators on a Van Nuys landing claim, a bright light seen from Oxford, Pennsylvania, and a low spinning object seen near Henderson, North Carolina. In each case the FBI took no action.

30 September 1952 MEMORANDUM FOR: MR. WALCOX Recd from Anu Intelligence 1091152hrs SUBJECT: Comments on Article in The NEW YORKER 1. A call was made to the Air Technical Intelligence Center, 1330 this date, (Captain Ruppelt) regarding the attached article. 2. ATIC did not in any way indicate to that the FBI has an interest in flying saucers. Furthermore, Captain Ruppelt stated that the FBI to his knowledge has never been called upon to furnish reports on flying saucers. ATIC is under the impression that made the story up or picked it up from a magazine or newspaper article sometime back that definitely was not associated with their organization. 3.
