FBI file: UFO, UFO Part 12

Federal Bureau of Investigation · 142 pages · text by OCR

This FBI file section contains a 20 January 1953 letter from the Johnson County, Indiana civil defense office asking J. Edgar Hoover whether the International Flying Saucer Bureau was subversive, with an enclosed issue of its bulletin Space Review. It also holds 1956 FBI memoranda and letters to Air Force investigators on a Van Nuys landing claim, a bright light seen from Oxford, Pennsylvania, and a low spinning object seen near Henderson, North Carolina. In each case the FBI took no action.

ADD 1 FLYING SAUCERS

DOOLITTLE ALSO DISCOUNTED THE PUBLISHED ACCOUNT OF THE SAUCER AND INTERCONTINENTAL BOMBER, WARNING HOWEVER THAT BACKERS OF THE BOOK PROBABLY WOULD USE THE DENIALS AS ANOTHER LEG UP TO PUBLICIZE IT. IN REFERENCE TO FREQUENTLY PUBLISHED SIGHTINGS OF WHAT OFFICIALLY ARE CALLED UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS THOMAS SAID THE AIR FORCE, OR SOME OTHER AUTHORITY, OUGHT TO, ONCE AND FOR ALL, MAIL IT DOWN AND SAY IT IS PURE FICTION:

WE SAID THE AIR FORCE HAD "HEMMED AND HAVED" ON THE ISSUE, APPARENTLY A REFERENCE TO THE 1955 AIR FORCE REPORT THAT IT HAD INVESTIGATED 5,000 REPORTED SIGHTINGS AND FOUND "NO EVIDENCE" OF THE EXISTENCE OF. SAUCERS.

THIS WASN'T QUITE THE SAME THING AS SAYING THE SAUCERS DID NOT EXIST, AS DRYDEN NOW HAS ASSERTED. 3/14--EC1145A
