This part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's UFO file collects FBI and Air Force correspondence from about 1950 to 1953. It includes an Air Force OSI district summary of aerial phenomena in New Mexico from December 1948 to May 1950, which reports that green fireballs occurred near sensitive installations and remained unexplained. It also holds a 1950 sighting of an orange sphere by a New Haven chemical engineer, a report from jet pilots near Fairbanks, a Los Alamos reporting form, and 1953 memos on sighting tips that the FBI passed on without investigating.

Director of Special Investigations The Inspector General Department of the Air Force The Pentagon Washington, D.C. October 20, 1930, he, his wife, and daughter, who reside at New Haven, went out of their home into the back yard at approximately 6:15 p.m. His young daughter called his attention to a star which was moving, and Mr. noted a sphere-like object directly overhead that gave a steady golden-orange glow. He stated that this object was very high, being between ten to twenty thousand feet high, possibly higher. The glow given off was very steady, not blinking, and the whole sphere itself glowed in about the same consistency. He witnessed this object for approximately twenty seconds, during which time it traveled in a westerly direction toward New York City. It then veered in a southerly direction, as if crossing Long Island, or possibly in such a direction that it might have been traveling over Long Island. He lost sight of this object as it disappeared behind trees.
