This part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's UFO file collects FBI and Air Force correspondence from about 1950 to 1953. It includes an Air Force OSI district summary of aerial phenomena in New Mexico from December 1948 to May 1950, which reports that green fireballs occurred near sensitive installations and remained unexplained. It also holds a 1950 sighting of an orange sphere by a New Haven chemical engineer, a report from jet pilots near Fairbanks, a Los Alamos reporting form, and 1953 memos on sighting tips that the FBI passed on without investigating.

DIRECTOR, FBI REPORTS ON ALLEGED SIGHTING OF SUBMARINES PARACHUTE LANDINGS, FLASHING LIGHTS, ETC. ESPIONAGE SAC, SEATTLE 6-18-54 OSI advises us that they have no interest whatsoever themselves in connection with these matters and that Operations of the Air Force doesn't even advise them. Colonel District Commander, OSI, states that there is an evaluation at Wright-Patterson Field where the data is correlated, that the reports are handled from the Air Force here to that point in a routine fashion and that OSI gives no credence whatsoever to it because they have never had any previous experience of any kind as to anything arising out of the situation. There is attached here a copy of a communication marked "CONFIDENTIAL" requesting data concerning the situation as well as several recent publications, some of which are issued by the Air Force itself. It is the opinion of Colonel that the releases are a poor thing and create mass hysteria, but he says he has nothing whatsoever to do with the situation.
