This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1949 and 1952 memoranda and public letters about flying saucers. Letters from citizens offering theories were acknowledged and forwarded to the Air Force, and Hoover passed along a report of objects over Thessalon Lake, Ontario, along with an anonymous German letter about a V-weapon disc. An Air Intelligence briefing said research had reached no satisfactory conclusion. Memos also trace how the negatives of a 1947 Phoenix disc photograph were handed to Air Force Intelligence.

Office Memorandum UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT

Reference is made to the memorandum captioned as above dated June 10, 1952, from Mr. to Mr. Belmont, which requested that OSI be contacted to determine if they turned over negatives of photographs of flying discs taken by the above-captioned individual to Mr. who works for Drew Pearson.

Lieutenant Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel of OSI were both contacted and both advised that no inquiries had been received by OSI from

The Bureau's Air Force Liaison Representative then contacted Colonel of Air Force Intelligence (A-2) who likewise advised that no inquiries had been received by the Office of the Director of Intelligence from anyone in Pearson's office. It is noted that matters involving flying discs are handled by A-2. Colonel advised that it was possible that any inquiries made by Drew Pearson's office would be made in the Office of the Public Information Officer of the Air Force. However, Colonel contacted the Public Information Office, and he was advised that no inquiries had been received from Drew Pearson's office regarding flying discs and no photographs or negatives of photographs of flying discs had ever been furnished to Drew Pearson's office.

Colonel advised that ordinarily when information regarding flying discs is received by Air Force representatives in the field, the information is referred to the Air Technical Intelligence Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, for research and correlation.
