This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1949 and 1952 memoranda and public letters about flying saucers. Letters from citizens offering theories were acknowledged and forwarded to the Air Force, and Hoover passed along a report of objects over Thessalon Lake, Ontario, along with an anonymous German letter about a V-weapon disc. An Air Intelligence briefing said research had reached no satisfactory conclusion. Memos also trace how the negatives of a 1947 Phoenix disc photograph were handed to Air Force Intelligence.

RECORDED-29 DIRECTOR, FBI (62-83894)-29.5 FLYING SAUCERS OSI LIAISON Reurlet August 7, 1952, in which you stated that a weekly liaison conference held in Philadelphia Major advised that OSI is no longer interested in receiving reports concerning flying saucers. OSI, as the official Air Force liaison agency, has agreed to accept reports regarding flying saucers and to transmit these reports to the Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, where all information pertaining to flying saucers is coordinated. If Major still insists that he does not desire to receive reports regarding flying saucers, you should advise the Bureau and the matter will be discussed further with OSI Headquarters in Washington, D.
