This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1947 to 1949 correspondence, memoranda and newspaper clippings about flying disc reports. It includes Hoover's replies to citizens, a Maine woman's account of a drifting object judged probably a weather balloon, a Richmond memo on a cigar-shaped object seen over Radford, Virginia on May 12, 1949, clippings on the Chiles and Whitted sighting near Montgomery, a Flyin' Saucer toy promotion, and agent interviews with witnesses in Vermont and a pilot near Bethel, Alaska.

Mr.Walter Winchell New York City,N.Y. My Dear Winchell. With reference to flying Disc's or other flying objects, thought you would be interested in the following. It in a measure substantiates your statements. Friday of last week noticed an object sailing through the sky and took a good look to try and distrguish it from planes that frequently fly over. About the same time two of his men working about a half mile away saw the object. They checked with each other and arrived at the same conclusion. It was a Disc and they ran to a telephone to report the incident. In the meantime DeJarnett started to the location where his men were working to check and see if they had seen the object. They had both seen it which proves beyond a question of a doubt that something of the disc type was in the air and when the third man stated he also saw it, I am satisfied you are very much right in your statements and I am inclined to call a person a liar that says(ther no disc) RECORDED . 1 163 - 1 / B 11 - 167 One of your fans INDEXED MAY 11948
