This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1947 to 1949 correspondence, memoranda and newspaper clippings about flying disc reports. It includes Hoover's replies to citizens, a Maine woman's account of a drifting object judged probably a weather balloon, a Richmond memo on a cigar-shaped object seen over Radford, Virginia on May 12, 1949, clippings on the Chiles and Whitted sighting near Montgomery, a Flyin' Saucer toy promotion, and agent interviews with witnesses in Vermont and a pilot near Bethel, Alaska.

Office Memorandum . UNITED S. OES GOVERNMENT TO : Mr. H. B. Fletcher FROM : SUBJECT: MISCELLANECUS DATE: May 23, 1919 On the afternoon of May 20, 1949, Chicago 25, Illinois, was referred to my office from the Director's Office. Miss stated she was going to be in Washington for a few days and that she was staying at the Ambassador Hotel. She stated that of the in Chicago, had some information regarding flying discs. Miss said that theory was to the effect that when people died their souls entered a space on this earth which is, of course, invisible to human eyes. He said that in this soul world there are good and bad people and that they have become involved in a war. According to Miss theory is that the flying discs which have been seen are the explosives being used in the warfare between the good and bad souls. Miss stated that the real purpose of her visit to the Bureau was to get her own name cleared. She said that the FBI has been conducting investigation regarding her and that she wanted to know the results of the investigation. I asked her what kind of an investigation the FBI had been making regarding her and she stated she was under suspicion of espionage activities. I informed her that I could not furnish her with any information which is contained in the Bureau's files inasmuch as our files have been designated as confidential by the Attorney General. Miss accepted this explanation and stated regarding her present activities that she had been in the Wacs as a private and had received an honorable discharge in 1945. She said at the present time she is working as a model in Chicago. She impressed me as being somewhat mentally unbalanced.
