This is part five of the FBI's UFO file, a set of Bureau memoranda and reports from 1947 to 1949. Most of it covers the FBI's inquiry into the Maury Island flying disc story in Tacoma, which concluded that the disc fragments were ordinary rock formations and that the story was a hoax. It also examines the fatal crash of a B-25 at Kelso and finds no sign of sabotage. The file includes other items: the Rhodes disc photographs, a proposed flying saucer convention in Alexandria, Louisiana, and ash from a fire near Scranton that someone suggested came from a flying saucer.

Office Memorandum · UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT DATE: June 30, 1949 ## Purpose Your approval is requested in order that the attached letter and memorandum can be forwarded to the Phoenix Office, authorizing that office to furnish the attached memorandum to Mr. OSI representative, Phoenix, Arizona. ## Background In July 1947, was jointly interviewed by Special Agent (Bureau Agent) and A-2 representative from Hamilton Field, California. The purpose of the interview was to secure from Mr. information and photographs of a flying disc, which had been sighted and photographed by Rhodes. The complete results of the interview and subsequent events are contained in the attached memorandum submitted by the Phoenix Office. Mr. OSI representative at Phoenix, Arizona, has requested the Phoenix Office to furnish him complete facts relating to this interview, which are to be subsequently forwarded to the OSI Office at San Francisco. According to Mr. referred to above, has been questioned concerning this matter by his superiors and he has advised them that his recollection is "hazy" on the matter. According to has apparently now requested the Air Force to return the photographs, which were previously obtained from him. ## Recommendation It is recommended that the Phoenix Office be advised that the memorandum attached may be forwarded by them to Mr. OSI representative, Phoenix, Arizona.
