This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1947 records on flying disc reports, including field office memoranda from Butte, Seattle, Salt Lake City and San Francisco on sightings in Washington, Montana, Utah and Idaho. Several were attributed to burnt paper or weather balloons, and Wright Field judged debris from a Danford, Illinois farm a hoax unconnected to Project Mogul. After the Army Air Forces described FBI work as chasing "ash can covers, toilet seats and whatnot," the Bureau discontinued its flying disc investigations and referred reports to the Air Forces.

Enclosed is a copy of a letter dated September 9, 1947 from Lt. Colonel of A2, with a memorandum prepared by 4th Air Force CIC on August 20, 1947 and August 26, 1947. The memorandum contains information regarding observations of of Sacramento, California. Also enclosed is a letter dated September 10, 1947 from Colonel 67C with attachment dated September 9, 1947 For the information of the Bureau, of Boise, Idaho, who has been repeatedly interviewed in this matter by A2, has expressed his intention to A2 of selling for publication his detailed account of his investigation of flying discs. 62-2938 DWK.
