This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1947 records on flying disc reports, including field office memoranda from Butte, Seattle, Salt Lake City and San Francisco on sightings in Washington, Montana, Utah and Idaho. Several were attributed to burnt paper or weather balloons, and Wright Field judged debris from a Danford, Illinois farm a hoax unconnected to Project Mogul. After the Army Air Forces described FBI work as chasing "ash can covers, toilet seats and whatnot," the Bureau discontinued its flying disc investigations and referred reports to the Air Forces.

## C 1 2 0 California. I would have given almost anything that day to have had a movie camera with a telephoto lens and free room. I will never be without one, but I can still cherish it every day. This is limited with Yankee, airplane, airport. I desperately want it to come to my very good friend, patiently and was very courteous but in a joking way didn't believe so. I did not secure any information about the situation. I did not mention the location or the number of people involved. I did not provide any specific details or conditions or anything new. In fact, several former Army pilots informed me that the situation had been briefed before going into combat overseas that they might see objects of similar shape and design as I described and assured me that I wouldn't proceed or go into war. I quote a former Army Air Force pilot who is now operating dusting operations at Fendleton, Oregon. "But you observed, I am convinced, in one type of jet or rocket propelled ship what in the process of being tested by our government or even it could possibly be made foreign government." Anyhow, the news that I had observed those spread very rapidly parts of the world; and, to date I have no reason to believe on one or other of them or of the other of the papers. I look at this whole ordeal as not something funny as so many people have made all out to be. To no it is slightly serious and since I evidently did observe something that at least no.
