This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1947 records on flying disc reports, including field office memoranda from Butte, Seattle, Salt Lake City and San Francisco on sightings in Washington, Montana, Utah and Idaho. Several were attributed to burnt paper or weather balloons, and Wright Field judged debris from a Danford, Illinois farm a hoax unconnected to Project Mogul. After the Army Air Forces described FBI work as chasing "ash can covers, toilet seats and whatnot," the Bureau discontinued its flying disc investigations and referred reports to the Air Forces.

There was a DC-4 to the left and to the rear of me approximately fifteen miles distant, and I should judge, at 11,000 feet elevation. The sky and air were clear on my course when I landed on my airplane. It startled me as I thought I was too close to some other aircraft. I looked every place in the sky and couldn't find where the reflection was. I looked as if I were in a mirror looking through a window to a point at a height of 9,500 feet elevation, seemingly, in a definite direction of about 170 degrees north to south. They were approaching it. Minimal very rapidly, and I merely assumed they were jet planes. Anyhow, I discovered that this was where the reflection had come from, as two or three of the every few seen could dip or change their course slightly, just enough for them to strike the at an angle that reflected brightly on my plane. There objects being quite far away, I was unable for a few seconds to make out their shape or their formation. Very shortly they approached us. Dirior, and I observed their outline against the snow and a little by. I thought it was very possible that I couldn't find their speed, as I had two definite points—Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams—I could see them and observe their approach to objects and doer for their purpose in shape and size of their miles. I remember distinctly that my sweep second hand on my watch day clock, which is located on my instrument panel, read one minute to 3.11. No such object was found on the southern edge of the interior.
