This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1947 records on flying disc reports, including field office memoranda from Butte, Seattle, Salt Lake City and San Francisco on sightings in Washington, Montana, Utah and Idaho. Several were attributed to burnt paper or weather balloons, and Wright Field judged debris from a Danford, Illinois farm a hoax unconnected to Project Mogul. After the Army Air Forces described FBI work as chasing "ash can covers, toilet seats and whatnot," the Bureau discontinued its flying disc investigations and referred reports to the Air Forces.

## O Director, FAI Fe: Flying Lises - Iacoma, n. 1947, however, when was approached in this regard, and they had more to the boat house where kept his boat, could not seem to make the boat run, and after making some excuses that he had to return to his office, had stated that he would return in about an hour, and by that time his mechanic should have the boat repaired and they could all proceed to Mauri Island. Mr. informed that never returned, and that they were unable to locate at any of the telephone numbers he had given them. They located in a movie, according to and that after making some efforts to locate had informed them that had left town for a few days. He further informed that about this time the cross contacted them and told them an informant had called and told them that on his way to Gleske in an army plane. Mr. McCord advised that Captain McCord had informed him that he had made an appointment with Major McCord Field and intended to tell Major McCord the complete story. During the afternoon, Captain McCord and Major McCord came to the hotel room, according to some of the fragments that Mr. McCord had brought to Mr. McCord's room, following the conference, were shown to Major McCord. Upon viewing the fragments, Major McCord, according to Mr. McCord, stated that they were nothing but slag from the copper mill, however, before Major McCord left, he gathered up every fragment in the room, according to Mr. McCord, and took them with him. Mr. McCord stated that he then left for Boise, Idaho. produced a letter dated August 5, 1947, from in which attempts to encourage Mr. to continue his investigation into the flying discs. This letter is also being enclosed to the Bureau. Also gave SA copy of the article sent to Mr. to the Commanding General, Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio, regarding his sighting of the nine discs near Mount Painier on June 24, 1947. This article is also being enclosed to the Bureau. Advised that he is vitally interested in this matter and knows that there must be something to the flying discs story stated that he will do everything in his power to help the Bureau in this matter. stated that he has told the above story to Army Intelligence and Major and to no one else, with the exception of Poise, Idaho, advised that the man has never paid for any news item he has given them, and has never approached him in this manner.
