FBI file: UFO, UFO Part 04

Federal Bureau of Investigation · 77 pages · text by OCR

This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section collects 1947 records on flying disc reports, including field office memoranda from Butte, Seattle, Salt Lake City and San Francisco on sightings in Washington, Montana, Utah and Idaho. Several were attributed to burnt paper or weather balloons, and Wright Field judged debris from a Danford, Illinois farm a hoax unconnected to Project Mogul. After the Army Air Forces described FBI work as chasing "ash can covers, toilet seats and whatnot," the Bureau discontinued its flying disc investigations and referred reports to the Air Forces.

# Flying Saucer Reported Flashing Down Canyon At 1,000 Miles Per Hour; Two Others Are Seen

Hawkinson, Twin Falls county commissioner and former county sheriff from Twin Falls, also saw two circular objects coursing along at a great height near Salmon dam 40 miles southeast of Twin Falls.

"I obtained a close-up view of the flying saucer as it passed by the trout farm at 1 p. m. Aug. 13 going down Snake river canyon at a height of about 75 feet from the canyon floor. I would estimate the speed at about 1,000 miles per hour."

Urie explained that the incident occurred while the two boys were coming across the river from the north side in a boat. He had become concerned about what we laying them, and had walked to toward the river to see if they all right.

"I had a side view at a disa of about 300 feet and almost a level with the thing." Ux tinued, "Two of my boys, K and Billy, were below me and also saw it at about a slor angle. They both got a beaten a side view, and we were at ing at it from the south side of
