This FBI file section, from 1947, gathers Army Air Forces counterintelligence reports and FBI memoranda about the summer's flying disc reports. It includes a Boise newspaper pilot's sworn statement describing a black object he filmed on 9 July 1947, interviews with a United Air Lines captain and a Hamilton Field soldier, and a Pan American crew's orange object near Boston. Other items cover the Tacoma disk fragment story, which was admitted to be false, the fatal B-25 crash at Kelso, a coded "Radio Ham" message dismissed as a hoax, and an Air Defense Command assessment that "something is really flying around."

7 July 1947 SUBJECT: Report on Flying Saucers. Commanding General 32d AAF Base Unit Bolling Field Washington, D. C. 1. Following are statistics regarding reports by four witnesses while in flight in two airplanes. 3. First report: time 1145 hours GST. Alt. of observers 600 feet above the ground. Altitude of sender 4000 feet NEL. Observed period - First sighted over Koshkonong, Wisconsin. Flight was observed from town of Koshkonong to Elkhorn, Wisconsin. This flight covered twenty-five (25) miles in fifteen (15) seconds, which is a speed of six thousand (6000) miles per hour. 2. Weather CAVU. Visibility exceptionally good. Scattered altocumulus 6000 feet. 4. Second report: Time 1430 hours GMT. Altitude of observers thirty-five hundred feet (3500) MSL. Altitude of sender twenty-five hundred feet (2500). Observation period. Observers at East Bay, Wisconsin, flight observed from Eagle, Wisconsin to Muskago, Wisconsin. This flight covered twenty-two (22) miles in twenty (20 seconds, which is a speed of three thousand nine hundred sixty (3960) miles per hour. 5. Flight maneuvers: First observation-sensor descended vertically edgewise through altocumulus clouds, stopped at four thousand (4000) feet and assumed horizontal position and proceeded in horizontal flight from a horizontal position for fifteen (15) seconds covering twenty-five (25) miles and again stopped and disappeared. Second observations Observed in horizontal flight in a horizontal attitude for a period of twenty (20) seconds covering twenty-two (22) miles. By the time the pilot had removed his camera from the glove compartment of his plane, the sensor disappeared and again reappeared approximately ten (10) miles farther along its course after six (6) seconds making its final disappearance. 6. The first two observers were an instructor and a student, just taken off from Eikhorn Airport. The second two observers, one being and a passenger. ENCLOSURE John D. Schindler, Jr. Maj.
