This FBI file section, from 1947, gathers Army Air Forces counterintelligence reports and FBI memoranda about the summer's flying disc reports. It includes a Boise newspaper pilot's sworn statement describing a black object he filmed on 9 July 1947, interviews with a United Air Lines captain and a Hamilton Field soldier, and a Pan American crew's orange object near Boston. Other items cover the Tacoma disk fragment story, which was admitted to be false, the fatal B-25 crash at Kelso, a coded "Radio Ham" message dismissed as a hoax, and an Air Defense Command assessment that "something is really flying around."

8/18, 47. Mr. J. Edgar Hoover: 7. 8. Washington, D. c. Dear Mr. Hoover: I rarely know how to go about trying to tell you what I want you to throw. But just in my own simple way I like to the heat and can. I know you are a very busy man although I hope you will take time to read my letter and I will try to make a long story short. Mr. Hoover almost fine week ago, that we all take a flying saucer close in my front yard a distance of fine or two feet from where I was standing. I saw it coming straight down out of the office. It came down at a terrific speed and exploded. I turned the piece over to Chief.
