This FBI file section, from 1947, gathers Army Air Forces counterintelligence reports and FBI memoranda about the summer's flying disc reports. It includes a Boise newspaper pilot's sworn statement describing a black object he filmed on 9 July 1947, interviews with a United Air Lines captain and a Hamilton Field soldier, and a Pan American crew's orange object near Boston. Other items cover the Tacoma disk fragment story, which was admitted to be false, the fatal B-25 crash at Kelso, a coded "Radio Ham" message dismissed as a hoax, and an Air Defense Command assessment that "something is really flying around."

LADD FROM : 67c DATE: September 8, 1947 SUBJECT: FLYING DISCS Reference is made to my memorandum to you in the above captioned matter dated August 22, 1947, which indicates that Special Agent of the Liaison Section had contacted Lieutenant Colonel of the Air Forces Intelligence at which time Colonel Garrett advised that the Army Air Forces were conducting no research or experiments in the vicinity of Twin Falls, Idaho, on or about August 19, 1947. Colonel at that time indicated to Mr. that he would check with the Army area in order to ascertain whether or not they were conducting any experiments in this vicinity at that time. Colonel has subsequently advised sir. that he has been advised by the Army area that no such experiments were being conducted in the area of Twin Falls, Idaho, on or about August 19, 1947, which would in any way throw any light on the matter reported in the teletype. ## RECOMMENDATION It is recommended this memorandum be forwarded to Kr of the Internal Security Section.
