This FBI file section collects July 1947 Bureau memoranda, teletypes, citizen letters and newspaper clippings about reported flying discs. They cover recovered objects at Twin Falls, Idaho, Shreveport, Louisiana, Black River Falls, Wisconsin, and Laurel, Maryland, many judged to be pranks, plus a Grafton, Wisconsin priest's circular saw blade the Milwaukee office called a hoax. A Dallas teletype reports a disc recovered near Roswell resembling a high altitude weather balloon with radar reflector. Kenneth Arnold's own account of his sighting is also included.

Office Men. Randum . UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO : MR. LADD DATE: July 12, 1917. SUBJECT: FLYING DISCS Reference is made to memorandum to you dated July 11, in the above-captioned matter. At 11:55 P.M., July 11, I took a phone call from of the Laurel, Maryland, Police Department. Sergeant said that he had examined the "flying disc." He said that it had been made from a Gulf Oil sign and the top of a garbage can and had been painted with aluminum paint. It had been recently painted because the paint was still wet. Attached to it were a dry cell battery, a flashlight bulb, some wires and a buzzer. He asked if the Bureau was sending anyone out to look at it. I told him that we were not, that we had referred the matter to the Army, and suggested that he call them. 67c I subsequently telephoned Captain the Duty Officer at G-2, and passed on to him the information furnished by Sergeant Lonis. ## G.I.R.
