This FBI Freedom of Information release collects Albuquerque field office reports from July 1970 to May 1971 on Silas Mason Newton, the Buckhorn Mining Company and the Magnetic Research Foundation, which were investigated for interstate transportation of stolen property and confidence games. Agents suspected that Newton was running a salted mining swindle near Silver City, New Mexico, since assays found no mercury or silver in the ore. The file also lists his arrest record. The case was closed after a lender said he had not been swindled.

On June 24, 1969, probation and sentencing continued to December 29, 1969. On December 29, 1969, on a motion of the defendant, probation and sentencing continued until July 13, 1970. The following investigation was conducted by SA on April 30, 1970: ## AT SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO Commission, Corporation Records' Section, advised there was nothing on record in his office for the Buckhorn Mine, Magnetic Research Foundation, but that the Copper Corporation of America, filed articles of incorporation on February 14, 1969, listing their principal address as 110 Yankie Street, P. O. Box 922, Silver City, New Mexico, and the agent of the company as The corporation has authorization for 25,000 shares of issued stock valued at $25,000. According to the articles of incorporation, the purpose of this corporation was to mine, smelt, refine, convert, prepare for market copper, sulfuric acid, chlorine, cryolit aluminum by-products, gold, silver, lead, zinc, brass, iron, and steel. The Directors of the company are The Incorporators are the same persons named as Directors. The names of the stockholders and the value of the stock was not given on the record and there was no description of the properties held by the corporation in this record. AT SILVER CITY, NEW MEXICO
