This FBI file on the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) covers correspondence and internal memos from 1961 to 1964. It contains citizen inquiries about the group, NICAP's reports about Dr. Frank E. Stranges implying he had FBI ties, and a request from New Orleans about an employee joining. The Bureau notes it never investigated NICAP. It calls some of director Donald Keyhoe's writing irresponsible and decides the FBI's name should not be connected with the organization.

ON AERIAL PHENOMENA WASHINGTON 6, D. C. April 27,1962 Mr. J.E. Hoover, Director Federal Bureau of Investigation Department of Justice Pennsylvania Avenue at 9th, N.W. Washington 25, D.C. Dear Mr. Hoover: It has come to our attention through various references in personal correspondence that the FBI has, to some extent, investigated one Dr. Frank E. Stranges. Enclosed is a report prepared by this Committee on Dr. Stranges which may be of interest. The letters cited in our report, including two in which the writers state Dr. Stranges implied he was associated with the FBI (underlined in red), are available for inspection here. We also have a thick file of letters from Dr. Stranges, or about him, which are not cited in the enclosed report. We would be glad to make this material available to the FBI and to furnish copies of any pertinent documents.
