This FBI file section compiles New Mexico State Police reports by Officer Gabe Valdez on 1978 cattle mutilations at Manuel Gomez's ranch near Dulce, a Los Alamos laboratory letter calling tissue findings inconclusive, and a December 1978 letter from Senator Harrison Schmitt asking the Justice Department to reopen an investigation. It also includes a Justice Department request that the FBI investigate 15 mutilations on Indian lands, and a report on an April 1979 Albuquerque conference that recommended central coordination of mutilation data.

8. NARRATIVE On 6-14-78 I was contacted by Mr. Manuel Gomez at 2:00 P.M. reference to a retaliation which had taken place at his owner range 13 miles East of Daley, Y. To investigate at the scene revealed that a 4 year old Ereford native boy had been retaliated. The carcass was lying on its side with tongue and sex organs precisely removed. Finnish blood from her nose was visible and the left front leg was broken. Heris were visible on the lower rear left leg them once the claw or vice had been fastened. No injuries on the carcass award the carcass upon retaliation site was approximately 800 yards North of the spot there Manuel Gomez found retaliated animal on June 14, 1976. Investigation at the scene showed that the animal elsewhere and retaliated and then natural and damaged. This animal had 57 hours, 56 minutes and 24 seconds for tests. This writer has concluded general cattle retaliation in this has been observed that no retaliations have occurred during indicible weather. On 7-16-73 approximately 72 head of cattle belonging to Vanuel Guzer were housed in night hours with an ultra-violet light. Out of the 72 cattle which were chained, 2 four year old cows and 3 two month old heifers had a distinctive fluorescence substance in the left forecarm of their body. Samples of the fluorescent substance were sent to be by a private laboratory At the time of this writing, no results have been obtained. It was done by Mr. Howard Burrows, who has been most helpful in these investigations. Mr. Manuel Gomez winteri approximately 120 head of cattle within the village of New Mexico.
