This FBI file on animal mutilations brings together newspaper clippings, correspondence and New Mexico livestock and State Police reports from the 1970s. The clippings report cattle mutilations near Dulce, Cuba and Taos, including an orange light seen near Taos that left a powder with potassium and magnesium, the same elements found on marked cattle hides. Senator Harrison Schmitt's letter to rancher Manuel Gomez forwards State Police Chief Martin Vigil's 1978 reports and notes that Officer Gabe Valdez had found no positive leads.

# CO FD # Four Mutilated Cows Found Near Dulce DUICE - The largest number of murflared coins ever found at one time has been discovered near Dulce. Valdes said the animals were found within a two-mile radius by Anna Ecktazar, who carried three of the cows. State Police Officer Gabe Vallez said four cons were found Friday about 18 miles southwest of Dalice on the Jictrilla Apache Reservation. In the past, only one or two number of animals have been found at a single location. The fourth animal was owned by Paleigh Tafoya, Jicarilla Tribal Police chief. This is the named cow belonging to Tafoya to be maintained this year. Valerie said Valdez said, adding that the mutilations were identical to others in that the animal's recruits had been cored, their scrual organs severed and their tongues cut out. The skin of the animal "looked as if it had been burned in 18-inch patches." Also, as in other mediation cases, Valdez said "evidence of a harrowing attack of some type was found". He said that the four cross discovered Saturday brought to 11 the number of cattle found mentioned in the Duke area since April.
