This FBI file on Daniel Fry, released under FOI/PA with 33 pages withheld, collects 1963 memoranda between the New York and Los Angeles field offices. New York found a 1962 letter and agreement signed by Daniel W. Fry about articles for "Understanding" magazine. Los Angeles reported that Fry was president of the Understanding movement and was trying to set up a utopian community at Merlin, Oregon, and it enclosed his book "The White Sands Incident". None of the index references to him were derogatory.

IA 65-7076 also made available the yearbook editions of "Understanding" for the years 1958 through 1961, which is a bound composite edition of all issues for each year, as well as single monthly editions of "Understanding" for 1962, and up to and including March, 1963. A review of all issues of "Understanding" failed to locate any articles having the copies obtained by in a letter written to subject by DANIEL W. ENY June 2, 1962. No articles were located authored by subject under any of his known aliases. also furnished a copy of "The White Sands Incident," written by DANIEL W. PRY. This book is a report by PRY of his alleged contact with and travel in a flying saucer. These items enclosed for New York, which are both articles about PRY and Marlin, PRY's book and the July, August and September, 1962, issues of "Understanding", are furnished to New York to aid in its evaluation of the Understanding movement, DANIEL N. PRY and subject's contact with the Understanding movement. advised there are no indices main- tained of the names of persons submitting articles for "Understanding." Articles are received from all parts of the country and from all sorts of individuals. Generally speaking, to Mr. PAY, who then decides what is to appear in "Understanding. He returns a final draft probable that a specific name of a contributor would mean nothing to ___ or Mr. MY. A library is maintained at Merlin, Oregon, but ___ had some doubts as to how complete this library is or how well it is organized.
