This FBI file on Daniel Fry, released under FOI/PA with 33 pages withheld, collects 1963 memoranda between the New York and Los Angeles field offices. New York found a 1962 letter and agreement signed by Daniel W. Fry about articles for "Understanding" magazine. Los Angeles reported that Fry was president of the Understanding movement and was trying to set up a utopian community at Merlin, Oregon, and it enclosed his book "The White Sands Incident". None of the index references to him were derogatory.

On April 1, 1963, OSI, Chell Air Force Station, California, advised that he had no information in his files regarding MIX or Under- standing, Inc. DANIEL PHY, the Pounder and President of the Understanding movement, is presently residing in Herlin, Oregon, where he is endeavoring to establish a utopian community. mano available a reproduced copy of page six of the Sunday, January 6, 1963, issue of the "Medford Jail Tribune," Medford, Oregon. This entire page is an article about DANIEL E. PIRF, which article is captioned, "A Conversation with Daniel W. Pry, Scientist Living in Norilca." This article was written by CLEVE TRITCMELL. A summary review of the issues of "Understanding" made available by revealed that CLEVE TRITCMELL is a frequent contributor to "Understanding." Also made available a two-page mincegraphed article captioned, "Herlin" which describes Herlin in the first paragraph as a "self-sufficient, planned community designed to bring together groups of similar interests and beliefs."
