Mexico , was at Socorro , New Mexico , and a t t he State
Pol ice Office t here on business l a t e afternoon of
Apr i l 24 , 1964.
At a ppr oximately 5 : 45 to 5:50 P. M., Nep Lopez ,
r adio oper ator in the Socorro County Sheriff ' s Office,
located about t hi r t y feet down the hall f r om the State
Poli ce Office , came int o the State Police Office .
Mr . Lopez advis ed M. S . Chavez , New f,iaxico St at e
Polic e , that he had just recei ved a r adio call from Officer
Lonnie Zamora to come to an area about one mile southwest
of Socorro . The call was in relation t o some unknown
object which "landed and has taken off . " Agent Byrnes
finished his wor k in the State Poli ce Office at Socorro
at approximat ely 6:00 P . M., April 24 , 1964 , and ther e
after proceeded t o the site where Officer Zamora ,
Socorro County Under sher iff Jim Luckie , Ser geant M. S .
Chavez , and Officer Ted Jordan , New Mexico State Police ,
were assemb led .
It may be not ed that it has been the obser vat ion
of Agent Byr nes t hat Offi cer Zamora , known i ntimate l y for
approximat ely fi ve years , is well regar ded as a sober ,
industrious , and conscient ious officer and not given
t o fantas y.
Officer Zamora was noted to be perfectly sober
and somewhat agitat e d over his experience .
Special Agent Byr nes noted four indent at i ons
