This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

This letter requ st infonnation concern- ing the reported sighting of d.al Object on or about 5 Dec~ber 1957 at Torrington, This letter was furnished the Office of Special Investigations ~ by the Ground Observer Corps (GOC) Coordinator for the St ate of --.i Connecticut. That individual has advised that an a lleged sighting of 13.n unidentifi ed flying object near Torrington, Connecticut, was reported on or about 5 December 1957, but that neither he nor the addressee have any knowledge of the author of the inclosed letter. ~ _, In.fomation has been received from the u. s. Army, and Air Force I Postal Service that no military units are located at Roseau,Minneqota.
