This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

After notifying the Air Force he wa s refe r red to the FB I and
an investigation wa s c onducted by two agents from the Flint
office . Th e ph otographs were subsequently furn ish ed to
t h e Air Force for analysis .
What is t h e FBI ' s policy with respect to t h is matter
or investigation or such c a ses ? Is t here an off icial FBI
regu lation pertaining to FBI UFO investigatory policy , and
i f so , I re1uest a c opy . If t h is is not poss ible could you
