This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

Perry of Grand Blanc, Michigan, was contacted by Bureau Agents from our Detroit Office at his request i n March, 1960, regarding photographs he had taken of what he believed to be unidentified flying objects. These photographs were turned over to the Office of Special Investi gations of the United States Air Force by our Detroit Office. Perry reported to the local paper that the FBI ns conducting an i nvestiga tion and it was necessary for this Bureau to straighten the record with that newspaper. Perry Nas advised that we had furnished his photographs to the Air Force and he subsequently wrote to the Director in April, 1960, i ndicating he was looking forward to the completion of the Air Force analysis of his photographs and their return to him.
