Department of War · 290 pages · text from the file's own layer

This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

NOTE: Snigier is not identifiabl e i n Bufiles. Joseph F . Perry of
Grand Blanc, Michigan, was contacted by Bureau Agents from our
Detroit Office at his request i n March, 1960, regarding photographs
he had taken of what he believed to be unidentified flying objects.
These photographs were turned over to the Office of Special Investi
