This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

In response to Jour inquiry, the FBI baa not conducted
an investigation as you mentioned tnasmucb as this would not come
within our Investigative jurlsdictton. The presence of an Agent was
simply to determine whether or not any violation may have occurred
