This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

The IIOUFO has been inves ti gating UFO and flying saucer sightings since August 1958 . We have a State Representative in most of the 50 states , and in seven foreign countries . We have a Scientific Panel of known scientist and a Technial Advisory Board of known saucer researchers . I have received special authorization f rom the Department of the Air Force in Washi ngton to visit Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton , Ohio for the purpose of viewing the Air Force Files on their saucer investi gation since 1948 . Among the s i ghtings we are interested in is one recent one , Soccorro , New Mexico, April 25 , 1964 . This s i ghting was observed by several d i ffe r ent people in dif~ ferent to,ms in New \iexico . According to the AP , it was stated that the FBI was investi gating this sighting .
