FBI file 62-HQ-83894, section 9

Department of War · 290 pages · text from the file's own layer

This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

one prior communication from him in which he requested an article by the
Director for inclusion in a publication he was inaugurating in connection with
his organization. Bis request was refused. Bufiles reflect that an individual
who claimed to have sighted an unknown flying object was interviewed by a
representative of this Bureau in the company of a United States Air Force
