This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

GILBERT KLEINKNECi:IT, Provost Marshal's Office, Fort Monroe, Virginia, advised SA CASTLES that the G- 2 Section of Second Army, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, has conducted a background check of BRYANT, since BRYANT has directed voluminous correspondence to military officials in the area and because BRYANT is employed by the Department of the Army . -3-
