This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

Re Buairtel to Norfolk, 9/20/63. (
A review of Norfolk files reflects that
BRYANT directed a letter to the Commanding Officer,
Cape Charles Air Force Station, Cape Charles, Virginia,
8/7/58, requesting information concerning unidentified
flying objects (UFO) . A copy of that correspondence
was directed to the FBI, Norfolk, by Cape Charles
Air Force Station officials .
Records also reflect that BRYANT had directed fa letter to the FBI, 2/1/59, which correspondence
was answered by the Bureau, 2/9/59 . BRYANT directed
a letter to Commanding Officer, Headquarters , Aircraft
Fleet, Marine Force Atlantic, U. S . Naval Base, Norfol k,
Virginia, 6/15/60, requesting i-&formatio_n concerning
UFOs . That agency submitted~ copy of that correspondence

8/8/63, concerning restrictions that command has
