This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

Perr y r eported incident t o the press which carried artitles indicating FBI i«Js investigating. We straightened out the ''Detroit Times" on this point. Perry by letter dated J - 21 - 60 wrote t o President Eisenhower pointing out he did not know where his photographs were but he woul d like assurance that they would be returned t o him. Special Agents of Detroit OJ/ice on 4 -12-60 informed Perry that the phot ographs he had v oluntarily turned over t o them had been furni s hed to OSI, Se l fridge Air Force Base, and that the Department of the Aiir Force had been flu rnish ed a copy of his l etter t o the President. Perry in his 4-lJ-60 Jetter thanked the Director f or relaying the message from the White House and indicated he was l ooking f orwa rd t o the c ompleti on oJ Air Force analysis of his photographs s o that "your offi ce " would be able t o return them t o him. He pointed out that "thousands are l ooking f orward" t o viewing the phot ographs.
