This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

photographs obtained fron Joa•ph Perry to a representative
of th6 Depart11lent of the Atr :Poree ;tor whatever action
was deerud appropriate by that agency.
On Jbrch Jl, 1960, the Depart,unt of Justice
furnished this Bureau a letter dated lhrch 21, 1960,
from Joseph P. Perry, directed to the Prttsident. This
letter had been re/erred to the Department of Justice
by the White House. A copy of this lett•r ts enclosed.

r1/erred to this Bureau; that tJu; photographs in question
were furnished to the Offtcs of Special Investigations,

to the President has been furnished to you.

NOTE FOR SAO, DETROIT:
Enclosed ts copy of letter from Perry to the
President. Assure that Perry is contacted immediately
and advised that his letter to the President was referred
to us by the Department of Justice which had received it
from the White House and you are acknowledging receipt
thereof. Point out to Perry that the contents of his
letter have been carefully noted and for his information
the photographs he voluntarily turned over to agents of
your office were immediately furnished to the Office of
Special Investigations, Department of the Air Force,
Selfridge Air Force Base, Mount Clemens, Michigan. Also
inform him that the Department of the Air Force has been
