This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying saucers from 1957 to 1966. It includes a 1957 memo on the rise in UFO reports after Sputnik, in which the Air Force told the FBI that the recent sightings were nonauthentic. It also holds a Havana report of a disc over Matahambre, Cuba, and inquiries about Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation and a Torrington, Connecticut sighting. Hoover's replies state that UFOs were never within FBI jurisdiction.

. . Perry advised he took the pictures wit~ a 35 mm Retna German Camera using Super Ansco Color Film, and he took these pictures through his home- made telescope which can go to 2,840 power. He estimates that at the time he took the picture showing the flying object, that his scope wa s set at between 350-400 power. This confirms information furnished to ~pecial Agent Louis Woiwade, 25th OSI District , who also wa s advised that the information was being furnished for any a ction he deemed appropriate and no further action was contemplated by the Detroit Office of the FBI.
