This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence and memoranda on flying saucers from 1952 to 1954. It holds letters from the public, which J. Edgar Hoover forwarded to the Air Force's Office of Special Investigations, and a 1952 teletype about a saucer-shaped light over the Savannah River Plant. It also includes an FBI Laboratory examination of the burned cap of scoutmaster D. S. DesVergers, which found no identifying residue, and instructions to field offices to refer disc reports to the Air Force.

(C) 1 FLYING DISCS -- Refer ence is made t o Bureau Bulletin #57, Paragraph n~ dated October 1, 1947, and SAC Letter lf:38, dat ed Mar ch 25, 1949, in the captioned matter. \It is noted that some Bureau field offices a r e not fur nishing to OSI local ly complaints regarding flying discs , pursuant to existing Bureau instructions. Upon recei pt of information by your office relating to the sighting of a flying disc, you should endeavor to determine from the complainant details of the type referr ed to in the Air Force memorandum, which was furnished to your office as an enclosur e to SAC Letter #38 . The information should then be promptly fur - nished to OSI locally by your office.
