This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying disks from 1949 and 1950. Most of it concerns a letter to Walter Winchell, passed on by Ernest Cuneo, from Peter Camerlon Jones, who said he saw a top-shaped silver object in the mountains near Los Angeles in August 1947. Los Angeles agents could not find Jones, and Hoover suggested the letter might be a prank. The file also holds a Navy intelligence report on 6 or 7 discs seen over southern Oregon on 27 May 1949, plus letters from members of the public about Chicago and Toronto.

"It was all so plain & clear for the object was in the eastern sky the sun just came from behind a cloud in the west at about sun down shown upon it. I rushed to my east door to try to distinguish a plane motor or some sound of motor or a possible crash maybe a few blocks away . But I heard nothing so I again explained & report to the 7th B.I. Lere, I could not judge the distance of the object. Now my own radio has not been working for about 2 weeks ; so that I do not recently caught all the news . But a friend of mine tells me that according to radio news , the saucers are again appearing . and are now disintegrating Now Mr . Official whom you are sure will give the matter serious study and considerat When the two tornados hit Woodward Okaa several years ago within a few days or a few weeks of each other. From that time on I have theorized that these " Flying Saucers " are being sent from a Russian base located somewhere near the eastern edge of Siberia, Korea or Mongolia , but more likely some place in Siberia , and are radar controlled. That the first ones of about the year of the tornados came back to the base there , and that they served a tri-purpose . photograph simultaneously record distance altitude temperature. Thus with data returning via the " saucers" the Russians may by this means have every foot of our U.S. Q photographed and our vital areas spotted. No doubt the " saucers" are built round and like this view from the side would have only one edge and spin like a top thrum the air with slots around the saucer where I have placed the dots. Could be made to open automatically and settle germs, chemicals ice etc. 2 . That they may be able to effect our weather current that have caused our heavy storms and unusual sudden
