This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying disks from 1949 and 1950. Most of it concerns a letter to Walter Winchell, passed on by Ernest Cuneo, from Peter Camerlon Jones, who said he saw a top-shaped silver object in the mountains near Los Angeles in August 1947. Los Angeles agents could not find Jones, and Hoover suggested the letter might be a prank. The file also holds a Navy intelligence report on 6 or 7 discs seen over southern Oregon on 27 May 1949, plus letters from members of the public about Chicago and Toronto.

Flying Saucers Gentlemen : - Here is a sketch of a "flying saucer," as was given to me by Herman Ubalsky a free hand drawing by me after going over Ubalsky's drawings. I was very interested in same as to what made it "Lick," and I will give you the sketches by me as I have a pretty good memory on what I see. Ubalsky said these "saucers" can attain tremendous speeds and says when one is launched near Leningrad it is but 3 hrs if not in too much of a hurry to new York, Washington, Boston, Albany and a lot of other cities on the Atlantic coast. I am at Redwood Valley now in Calif on 16/ highway 9 mi north of Utah. Will go back to Yuba City and Marysville and Stockton next week after Easter understand these "saucers" do not need much
