This section of FBI file 62-HQ-83894 collects Bureau correspondence on flying disks from 1949 and 1950. Most of it concerns a letter to Walter Winchell, passed on by Ernest Cuneo, from Peter Camerlon Jones, who said he saw a top-shaped silver object in the mountains near Los Angeles in August 1947. Los Angeles agents could not find Jones, and Hoover suggested the letter might be a prank. The file also holds a Navy intelligence report on 6 or 7 discs seen over southern Oregon on 27 May 1949, plus letters from members of the public about Chicago and Toronto.

April 4. 1950 Federal Bureau of Investigation Washington D. C This is not an April Fort joke. Saturday, April 1, 1950 at about 6 P.M. Saver driving north on Route 47. West of Genera, Illinois and a little north of St. Charles, Illinois. Just ahead thru the windshield I saw a library white object in the sky. It was traveling west at about the speed of an airplane. It were shaped like this. I was driving at 35 M.P.H. and slowed down to 20 M.P.H. to watch this object. It went behind a white cloud and I continued to watch but the object did not come out from behind the cloud so far as I could see. Genera is 35 miles west of Chicago, and just north of Chicago is the Glennview Airport, operated by the Mary. The Saturday Evening Post carried an article sometime ago about flying saucers and it said to report anything like the above to the F.B.I. Nois Saura M. C.
