Department of War · 184 pages · text from the file's own layer

This FBI file section, serial 448 onward of 62-HQ-83894, gathers UFO correspondence from 1966 to 1977. It includes J. Edgar Hoover's reply to Florence C. Dow of Goffstown, New Hampshire, who had asked whether the Amalgamated Flying Saucer Clubs of America was backed by communists. Her enclosed July 1966 issue of the AFSCA journal is also in the file. Later items are a 1977 Air Force UFO fact sheet on the end of Project Blue Book and a White House inquiry, to which the FBI replied that it has no jurisdiction over UFO sightings.

Dear Sirs;
There currently are rumors over the grapevine and
in print that suggest men with oriental features wearing dark clothes go
around terrorizing people who have had close-up views of UFO's.
It is also rumored these creatures have impersonated armed forces officers
and FBI investigators. They are supposed to ride around in black or dark
automobiles that either have old licence tags or none at a ll . Several are
reported to have attemped to run down witnesses of UFO s ightings, made
disturbingl3,1mcrst macabre phone calls , s ilenced several investigators who
were supposed to have learned some dark secret about extraterrestial craft
or mission pla ns and epened mail, tapped telephones and even taken pictures
of several homes where UFO witnesses lived.
Can you give me any information on such rumors? Or can you
refer me to a source whose facilities can answer my questions?
this information will hel p settle some disturbing questions
the readers of my articles. Personally I am not sure at all whether I can
fully accept t hese rumours as facts. I need more information.
Any information you s upply can ease the worries of people
who feel that the objects unknown they see in the sky may portend the visit
of a mysterious visitor.
• Yours Truly,/ .~~
