Department of War · 184 pages · text from the file's own layer

This FBI file section, serial 448 onward of 62-HQ-83894, gathers UFO correspondence from 1966 to 1977. It includes J. Edgar Hoover's reply to Florence C. Dow of Goffstown, New Hampshire, who had asked whether the Amalgamated Flying Saucer Clubs of America was backed by communists. Her enclosed July 1966 issue of the AFSCA journal is also in the file. Later items are a 1977 Air Force UFO fact sheet on the end of Project Blue Book and a White House inquiry, to which the FBI replied that it has no jurisdiction over UFO sightings.

Dear Mr_, Hoover:
December 1, 1963, I observed in the sky at Moorestown, New Jersey, an
unusual object and its unusual behavior. On December 8, 1963, just
24 hours later at Elkton, Maryland, the Pan American Aircraft with 73
passengers and a crew of eight perished when this aircraft exploded in
mid air and crashed.
I sent a tape recording of the observation I had made on December 7, 'to Mr. J. F.d.gar Hoover and associated this object with the crash of
this plane. Mr. Hoover infonned me that the Civil Aeronautics Board
was investigating this disaster and what I had sent to him would be ~

that this aircraft was destroyed by contact with one of these mines.
